Platelet Rich Fibrin

Harnessing Benefits of PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin)

What Is PRF

If you have been following along with some of the latest trends in medical aesthetics, you have probably heard about micro-needling and PRF or platelet-rich fibrin. These are processes where patients are able to use their own tissues to help achieve a younger, fresher look.

What Is PRF?

PRF stands for Platelet Rich Fibrin, which is a portion of spun down blood that is high in platelets (PRP), fibrin and other blood cells. Whenever an injury occurs, platelets and fibrin are come to the area to help with the healing process by enabling collagen formation. Platelets are loaded with growth factors and fibrin matrix keeps the platelets in one place for longer time. In several ways PRF is the second generation, improved platelet rich plasma. Many people are now turning to PRF for facial rejuvenation procedures.

How Is PRF Prepared?

Platelet Rich Fibrin is harvested from the patient’s own blood. Blood is drawn and taken to a special kind of centrifuge that separates the PRF portion from other components of the blood. PRF can then be applied to the skin surface along with micro-needling or may be injected into facial skin or scalp. In some instances, the PRF may also be combined with fat to enhance volume of sunken facial areas as a natural dermal fillers.

How Long Does PRF Last?

The PRF treatments are sometimes performed using a series of treatments spaced apart by anywhere from six to eight weeks. After PRF injection therapy, the skin will show extra volume for a few days. Long-term effects that many patients experience include increased collagen production, tightening of the skin, and overall enhanced quality of the skin. When injected in scalp, both men and women may see increased hair growth and improvement of hair density. Patients start seeing longer term results from PRF therapy roughly six weeks after their initial treatment.

Who Benefits From Treatment Using PRF?

There are many benefits to using cosmetic treatments with Platelet Rich Fibrin. PRF can help to stimulate new, healthy collagen growth and can speed up the healing process. It has also been shown to improve firmness and overall texture of the skin and hair density. PRF treatment, since it is all-natural and comes from the patient’s own blood, is a safe and effective way to enjoy dermal augmentation and skin rejuvenation.
