Finding the Right Breast Implant for You

Breast Implant Choices - Bel-Red Plastic SurgeryIf you’re considering breast implants and have done any kind of research on the topic, you’ve probably come across a wide variety of options.  On the market today are several types of breast implants to choose from, but I’m sure you’re wondering which one is right for you.  Well, at the Bel-RedCenter for Aesthetic Surgery in Bellevue we can help.  Dr. Jan Zemplenyi has used a variety of breast implants and can assist you in finding the one that meets your needs. He uses the Body Logic System TM method to assist you in your choice.

The first thing to consider when it comes to breast implants is the filler – saline or silicone? The very first breast implants in the 1960s were only silicone gel, but now women in Bellevue can choose from saline or silicone.  Both saline and silicone gel filled breast implants are enclosed within a shell of firm, silicone elastomer to allow the breast to feel as natural as possible. Although there was once a ban on silicone breast implants, significant improvements have been made, and the FDA lifted the ban in November 2006.

Naturally the size of the implant is a priority for women considering breast implants.  In addition to the actual size of the implants there are several other variables that will determine how your breasts will look after surgery.  Cosmetic surgeons like Dr. Jan Zemplenyi at the Bel-Red Center for Aesthetic Surgery in Bellevue, who have years of training and experience, know that factors such as the size of your ribcage,  your breast width and your existing breast volume must be considered when selecting the size of your  breast implant. Take a look at the gallery of before and afters on our website and when you find one (or a few) pictures that depict what you are looking for, save them and show them to Dr. Zemplenyi because sadly there really isn’t a universal standard for what a “C or D cup” is.  When bringing pictures try to find examples of women close to your height and weight, if possible.  During your consultation with Dr. Zemplenyi and his staff you will become empowered to decide on the size and projection of your implant.

Now moving onto the shape of the breast implants.  Most women do not know that there are two distinct shapes of breast implants.  There are the round implants and there are what we call the “anatomical” implants, meaning they are more teardrop and tend to appear more natural. The anatomical shaped breast implants mimic the slope of a natural breast when upright but these implants are more firm. Upon standing up the round breast implants also form a tear drop shape and basically are the same shape as a natural breasts when not lying down.  Some of our patients in the Bellevue and Seattle area think that  anatomical implants reflect a more mature breast.  However, anatomical breasts tend to be pretty stationary and firm meaning they don’t move much when you do.  Round breasts do shift a little when you move like normal breasts do so both really have their benefits. Once informed, the majority of our patients choose the smooth, round silicone implants. It’s mostly about what you want and how you want to look after your surgery.

If you live in the Bellevue and Seattle area, contact our office today for a consultation.  Dr. Jan Zemplenyi and our staff at the Bel-Red Center for Aesthetic Surgery will be more than happy to go over any of your questions and all the options available to you.
