What is otoplasty?
Otoplasty is surgery to correct the position, shape or proportions of the ears. This ear surgery can treat ear defects from birth or those resulting from later trauma. Otoplasty not only corrects the appearance of ears that seem out of proportion to the face or stick out, but resolves the self-consciousness and social discomfort that can accompany a facial feature such as prominent ears. Bringing the ears to a more natural position or more balanced proportion improves a child’s self-esteem and self-confidence. Socially, the child will not “stick out” as much.
