What kind of anesthesia is used during lip augmentation?
Fillers contain anesthetic in the filler itself to numb the area and minimize discomfort. Topical anesthetic cream or ice can be applied to the area to be treated. Dr. Zemplenyi also uses a vibratory anesthetic device to decrease pain sensation.
If fat transfer is used for lip augmentation, local anesthesia is used in the area from which the fat is gathered and around the lip for comfort during the fat injection.
For permanent lip augmentation, local anesthetic is injected around the lip to numb the area during insertion of the augmenting material.
