Botox Cosmetic Injections

As a facial plastic surgeon Dr. Zemplenyi is very knowledgeable about facial muscular anatomy and is very experienced with Botox injections, as he has been using this substance since 1990′s — long before it was so popular as a cosmetic procedure. As opposed to some offices, Dr. Zemplenyi carefully performs Botox treatments himself injecting it with tiny needles and usually with minimal discomfort. No anesthesia or recovery are needed. Patients lose no time from work or social activities. If any bruising occurs, it resolves quite quickly and may be easily covered up with make-up. Uncommon problems with Botox, if any, resolve shortly and spontaneously. Repetitive, regular treatment with Botox is recommended for the best effect, especially as some patients are eventually able to increase the intervals between the treatments when the forehead and other injected muscle groups become weaker. At the Bel-Red Center our charges for Botox treatment are determined by the exact amount of units of Botox injected in contrast to the less precise method of treatment by zones or areas such as the forehead, crows feet, etc.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels with glycolic acid (“fruity acid”), salacylic acid and mild TCA (trichloroacetic acid ) are very useful in reversal of mild skin changes induced by sun damage and weathering (solar brown spots, brown pigmentary changes, weathered, thickened, cornified, dry skin). The skin is a living organ made up of millions of cells organized in several layers.

Everyday thousands of cells are sloughed off, and new cells from deeper layers of the skin replace them. As part of aging, this process becomes slower and more disorderly, causing the skin to appear more dull, blotchy and “sun damaged”. The function of a skin peel is to create a controlled shedding of several outer layers of damaged cells. This exposes a new fresh layer of skin with a more even color and a smoother texture. It can also be used to even out brown pigmentary changes (liver spots, sun spots) or to remove precancerous skin lesions such as actinic keratoses.

Cosmetic Fillers

The field of facial fillers has grown over the last several years to an amazing array of exciting new products. These volume enhancing substances answer the popular desire for non-invasive, minimal downtime rejuvenation. Filling agents replace the age-related loss of the skin’s natural components: fat, water, collagen and hyaluronic acid. In Dr. Zemplenyi’s practice, fillers including Restylane®, Perlane®, Juvederm®, Radiesse®, Sculptra®, Belotero®, Voluma® and Bellafill® are each used to best effect. Each of these substances has its own advantages for wrinkle reduction and plumping treatment in various areas of the face. Fat injection with one’s own fat transferred from one area to another is another alternative to replace lost facial volume. Dr. Zemplenyi also uses Selphyl, a platelet-rich gel matrix, to induce the body’s natural collagen production. Additionally, injection of any of these fillers may be combined with neuromodulators, Botox®, Xeomin® andDysport®, to relax muscles for further rejuvenation.

Skin Surface Procedures

Time, genetics, and many other factors take effect and leave their traces on our skin. Nowhere are these changes more visible than on the face. With the aging process skin of the face begins to sag, volume is shifted and reduce while texture of the skin changes in color, pigmentation, luster and becomes weathered with wrinkling. Crow’s feet wrinkles become evident around the eye area, laugh lines deepen and fine vertical lines “smoker’s lines” appear on the upper lip around the mouth. Fortunately, modern aesthetic, cosmetic techniques are available to address all of the aspects of the aging face. As seen under other heading of this section as well as the non-surgical procedure section, Dr. Zemplenyi is expert in employing multiple modalities to Resurface the skin, Restore facial volume, Relax facial muscles and Reverse gravity-related sag.

Fat Transfer

Dr. Zemplenyi has been interested in restoration of contour of the face since his fellowship training in Cosmetic Surgery in Beverly Hills in 1987. Modern rejuvenation is based, in part, on restoring the facial volume that has been lost through the aging process. One’s own fat (adipose tissue), used to replace the fat which has shifted or been lost, lends itself as the ideal, natural filler substance and volumizer of cheeks, temples, nasolabial folds etc. -sometimes resulting in dramatic improvement in appearance. Fat is also the richest body source of adult stem cells.

Sclerotherapy

Women are very often bothered by small, red & blue spider veins on the thighs and the entire legs. If not associated with the large, bulging and painful varicose veins, these small spider veins can be diminished or eliminated by injections of small amounts of sclerosing solution delivered through tiny needles. Sclerotherapy for small spider veins is generally more effective and comfortable than other available laser-assisted methods.

Dr. Zemplenyi refers patients for a venous ultrasound Duplex scan whenever he suspects the existence of an underlying open communication between the deep and superficial venous system. Dr. Zemplenyi does not treat varicose veins.

Micro-Needling Collagen Injection Therapy

Micro-needling is another tool in the collagen induction armamentarium.  Since the loss of collagen contributes to the fine (and not so fine) wrinkles that come with age, the acne that is the bane of puberty, and the stretch marks of pregnancy, micro-needling induced collagen formation can help rejuvenate these signs of the passage of years.  The technique involves repeated puncture of the skin with tiny, sterile needles.  At Bel-Red Center for Aesthetic Surgery we use an electric pen-shaped device, Rejuvapen, with precisely spaced micro-needles to make tiny perforations into top skin layers to promote collagen and elastin regeneration.
